How to use WebP to JPG / PNG
PNG or JPG?
Photos belong in JPG: smaller files, no visible difference. Keep PNG for screenshots of text, logos and line art, where JPG blurs sharp edges, and for anything with a transparent background. If you convert a transparent WebP to JPG, the see-through areas are filled with the colour you choose (white by default).
Animated WebP files
Only the first frame is converted; the result is a still image. There is no way around that in the browser, so keep the original file if you need the animation as well.
Avoiding a second round of quality loss
A WebP saved from the web has already been compressed once, and converting re-encodes it. At quality 90, the default, that second pass stays invisible. Going much lower stacks new artefacts on top of the ones already in the file.
